About two months ago my husbands job informed his entire office that they will be closing the office here in our city and moving it to Ohio to combine with another region. For those of you who don't know we live in Illinois. At first we did not even know if my husband would have a job. He had to travel to Ohio and interview for a job which he did receive an offer for. A couple of weeks ago he accepted the offer so it looks like eventually we maybe moving to Ohio. My husband is a railroader and has only 9 more years until he can retire from the railroad. There is some small possibility he would switch fields entirely but I am not sure that will actually happen. As of right now he does not know when he needs to be in Ohio to start work there. We do know that we have one year to utilize relocation services provided by his company from the time he needs to report to work in Ohio. Right now our plan is for him to go there without me and Kid #5 until after the 2016-2017 school year. Kid # 5 has requested to finish middle school here and be a new student at a new school going into high school. This will allow us time to get our house ready to sell also.
So there ya go. This has been our summer so far. To say I am really bummed about this turn of events is an understatement :( However I am blessed that my husband does still have a job!
The railroad has great benefits and you will retire well. Stick to your plans or new plans.
ReplyDeleteAside from the hassle of having to sell a house and buy a new one and move all your stuff think of this as a new beginning and an adventure! A good attitude will help it all go better.
ReplyDeleteOn the pro side of things, perhaps this area will a cheaper one in which to live?
And you will have a whole year to declutter and get rid of whatever you aren't taking so that's a positive.
You are right a good attitude goes a long way. If we had not just relocated already for this company 1 yr ago this would be a lot easier to swallow. We will see how it goes though.
DeleteSomething to think about- we moved a lot when our kids were growing up. The times we moved during the school year were actually easier on the kids because everyone befriended them. They were the new kids with instant popularity. Now I will add my kids were very smart with good grades so never struggled academically. That could be a problem with different states and classes. I don't know if you are church goers, but finding a chuch and youth group also helps with the friends situation.

DeleteOh boy. That's a lot to swallow. Not sure what I would do in that situation. Is there a big cost of living difference between Illinois and Ohio? Either way, it's great that he was offered a position. Hang in there! Sending positive vibes your way! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a bigger cost of living. The city is way bigger too. That could be a fun thing for us though with lots to do. We are just taking it all alittle bit at a time to see what happens.
